AUTOGRAPHIC MANUSCRIT, Ernest SHACKLETON...; 2 pages in-4 on graph paper.
Biographical note on the British polar explorer Shackleton (1874-1922).
"His qualities as a leader of men, as a chief (his companions called him "the boss") coupled with exceptional human qualities make him one of the greatest figures of polar exploration. He retraces his career and his various expeditions to Antarctica, up to the last one: "In 1913 Shackleton set out again for Antarctica to attempt to cross the continent via the South Pole. His ship, the Endurance, sank in the Weddell Sea, crushed by the ice pack. It took three years of drifting in the ice, of exhausting walks, of precarious wintering, of incredible navigation in a small open boat in the worst seas in the world, of difficulties that seemed insurmountable, three years of perseverance, self-sacrifice and courage to Shackleton to bring back to civilization all his men without losing a single one.
