L.A.S. "Freud", Wien 21.IV.1912, to a colleague [Hugo SALUS]; 1 1/2 pages in-8 on his letterhead; in German.
Beautiful letter on psychoanalysis.
Hugo SALUS (1866-1929, Czech physician, writer and poet), sent Freud a sonnet for publication.
Freud thanks Salus for the friendly welcome he has given to the journal Imago, which really needs sympathy to survive in the hostile world.
Salus' sonnet shows again that psychoanalysis does not always fantasize, but often only made public what was kept secret. Freud does not promise to give the sonnet to Imago, where it would not belong. He would rather give it to the Zentralblatt für Psychanalyse, which had long been concerned with poetry. It is the same society as Imago... [Indeed, in 1912, Salus' sonnet Der Knabe appeared in No. 12 of the Zentralblatt für Psychanalyse und Psychotherapie co-edited by Freud].
