L.A.S. "J. Brahms," [Ischl, Aug. 15, 1896], to Gustav OPHÜLS, in Krefeld; 1 oblong page in-12, address on reverse (Correspondenz-Karte); in German. [Gustav OPHÜLS (1866-1926) was director of the district court Instance, pianist and music critic in Krefeld; he published with Simrock in 1898 the collection of texts set to music by Brahms: Brahms-Texte. Vollständige Sammlung der von Johannes Brahms componirten und musikalisch bearbeiteten Dichtungen. In 1921 he also published his memoirs on Brahms: Erinnerungen an Johannes Brahms]. He will soon be able to find his Folk Songs ("meine Volkslieder") in Nicolay's Almanach, as well as in Kretschmer and Zuccalmaglio's collection of folk songs [Deutsche Volkslieder]¸ e.g. "Erlaube mir", and "In stiller Nacht". He does not know the source of these editions. Gustav Ophüls then worked on the songs for two years at Simrock under the title "Brahms-Texte", a "complete collection of poems composed and set to music by Johannes Brahms" which he published in 1921, just like his "Memories of Johannes Brahms".
