Paul NADAR (1856-1939). Clara Ward (1873-1927), Princess of Caraman-Chimay, 1897. Vintage albumen print, 14.5 x 10.5 cm pasted on a 16.4 x 10.9 cm card. Handwritten caption on the back: "Princess of Chimay / April 1897". Cardboard printed with the name of the photographer. Although dated 1897, we can presume that this photograph of Clara Ward in a rather "wise" pose predates the princess's escape with a gypsy musician in December 1896, after which she will display herself in much more daring poses for the time. As Paul Nadar's cardboard montage mentions photographic distinctions in 1895, we can put forward the hypothesis that this photograph was produced between 1895 and December 1896.
