APULIAN SKYPHOS AND LID WITH RED FIGURES
DATE: half IV sec. a. C.
MATERIAL AND TECHNIQUE: chamois figulina clay, shiny black paint, white and yellow overpainting, orange coloring, modeled by fast lathe.
Rounded rim, truncated cone bowl, ring foot, ribbon handles set horizontally on the rim.
ACCESSORY DECORATION: entirely painted with the exception of the lower part of the attack of the foot; under the lip meander wave left, under the handles large palmettes open to fan between volutes and inflorescences; lid brim with truncated cone knob, decorated with two profiles of young people vaulted to the right with the hair collected in the sakkos, alternating with open palmettes.
DECORATION: sides A and B) profile of young woman turned to the right with her hair gathered in an embroidered kekriphalos from which emerges a vaporous tuft; the girl wears the stephane radiata, earrings with pendants and necklace.
PRODUCTION: Apulian pottery with red figures
