VASE WITH ITS LID Egypt, Thinite period, early 3rd millennium B.C. Alabaster H. 7.2 cm; Diam. 11.7 cm Provenance Former collection of R. L. (1934-2010), Geneva, Switzerland, established between 1950-1990. Vase of globular form composed of two parts, the lower one is a simple bowl with a flat and circular bottom, while the upper one, provided with a circular opening with a rounded lip, constitutes the lid of the vessel. Similar types of vases, sometimes with a more angular profile, are attested at the very beginning of the Egyptian dynastic period. A Thinite alabaster cosmetic vase with lid.
