Roman ring set with an intaglio Eastern Roman art, 2nd - 3rd century Burnt carnelian intaglio ; 11 x 13,4 mm 24 cts gold setting ; diam (int) 17,4 mm TD_54 ; 9 grs Provenance Paris, private collection Figure of a portrait with youthful features in profile and turned to the left. The hair is encircled by a diadem. The face is characterized by a large almond-shaped eye, a marked pupil, a short straight nose and a small fleshy mouth. The hair is represented in thick strands, protruding behind the tiara and reaching to the base of the neck. This may be a representation of the god Apollo.
