BE This officer made his whole career in the Marine Corps, fighting at Bois Belleau in 1917, he was wounded 3 times, received the war cross, the DSC and the Navy cross, in 1943 then brigadier general he was at Guadalcanal, then commanded the 1st provisional Marine brigade at Guam, he received the Distinguished service medal, then commanded the 6th Marine brigade at Okinawa. He then participated in the Korean War where he received a Silver Star after the Inchon landing. He was made Commander of the Marine Corps in January 1952 by President Truman. He retired in 1956.
