Paul Philippe (1870-1930), important sculptor of Art Nouveau and Art Deco, studied at the Royal Academy of Arts in Berlin. In 1900 he moved to Paris, where he soon lived in Les Fusains, an artists' colony at the foot of Montmartre. ''Great Russian Dancer'', large chryselephantine figure of a dancer with outstretched arms, polychrome patinated bronze with ivory head, arms and shoulders. On a pedestal of brown onyx marble, incised signature inside, ivory with hairline cracks, pedestal minimal chips, overall h. 60 cm.
