A BLUE AND WHITE PORCELAIN ‘BOYS’ KLAPMUTS BOWL, KANGXI
China, Kangxi period (1662-1722). The deep rounded sides rising from a straight ring foot to a broad everted rim, painted to the interior with a central roundel enclosing two boys dancing in a garden below scrolling clouds, the rim with a floral-geometric band, the exterior with garden scenes with boys at play attended by young ladies below a band of Buddhist symbols, the recessed base with an apocryphal six-character Chenghua mark within a double circle.
Condition: A segment of the rim (ca. 14 cm long) has been reattached with hairlines visible, some minor wear and firing irregularities.
Provenance: From an old family collection in Pressburg, Austrian Empire, Slovakia, and thence by descent to the present owner.
