RESTORATION //// Couple of statuettes NAYARIT CULTURE, MEXICO. Protoclassic, 100 BC-250 AD. Ceramic with brick red and creamy white slip, manganese oxides. H. 22 and 21 cm. Beautiful pair of statuettes representing two men seated in a similar attitude: left leg bent, hands resting on one knee. Ritual deformation of the skull towards the back showing a classical face, characteristic of the Nayarit culture, decorated with ear pendants and a labret. Beautiful headdress with circular pastilted motifs. Provenance: French private collection. Couturier Nicolay sale, Antiques and primitive arts, June 29, 1981, Paris, lot 60.
