GUEULETTE et MONCRIF: Théâtre des Boulevards ou recueil de parades. Gilles Langlois, A Mahon [Paris] 1756. 3 volumes In-12 xiij, 308pp. and (2) xij, 308pp. and (2) ij (2) 336pp. full red morocco, spine ribbed, large gilt iron in the centre of the boards, int. lace, gilt edges (Smeers) First edition, rather rare, with an unsigned frontispiece, sometimes repeated in each volume for some copies. Collection of free plays, sometimes obscene, composed by Charles Collé, Montcrif, Piron, etc., published by Corbie or Sallé, secretary of Maurepas. The identification of the authors is given according to an autograph manuscript of Collé himself, composed in the "poissard" style which ensured his success. The parade is based on popular comedy and features free love affairs in light and gallant plays. The titles are evocative: La confiance des cocus, La chaste Isabelle, Le doigt mouillé, L'amant poussif, Isabelle grosse par vertu, Le marchand de merde.
