Roman capital I-II century A.D. Marble. Measures: 25 x 26 x 26 cm. In this Roman capital, which reinterprets the Greek Corinthian order, the characteristic upper line of protruding volutes can be appreciated, as well as the synthetic edges of the lower section and the incised vegetal growths in the center. The schematization that can be seen in the leaves responds to the changes produced in Roman art since the second century A.D. and which are aimed at a greater schematization due to the search for an art that was "eternal" and aimed at the afterlife that religions such as Christianity defended. As a decorative element, the Roman capital occupies an important place next to the plinths, spires and abacuses, of freer forms than the Greek orders in the interpretation of the artisans, although subject to canons and artistic tastes.
