RADIGUET (Raymond).
Le Bal du Comte d'Orgel.
Paris : Bernard Grasset, 1924. - In-12, paperback.
VERY RARE ORIGINAL EDITION, known as "des bonnes feuilles", of Raymond Radiguet's second novel.
This is one of the 20 proof copies, justified on the cover as follows: "Proofs of the novel by Raymond Radiguet... In the exact state left by the author and before any corrections, even typographical. Twenty numbered copies have been printed from these good sheets". The
publisher received the manuscript in October 1923 and, judging it sufficiently complete, had proofs made at the end of that month
.
When Radiguet died suddenly on December 12, 1923, Grasset decided to print 20 copies of these proofs, which were sent exclusively to the author's closest friends.
These proofs are very precious because they give the first state of the book, i.e. before the numerous corrections made by Cocteau, Lacretelle, Behaine, Kessel and Grasset.
A very well preserved copy.
