Rare first edition of this famous novel by Balzac, dedicated to his niece mademoiselle Sophie Surville. The author considered it as "the masterpiece of the painting of manners".
A beautiful copy, washed, in a pastiche binding from the beginning of the 20th century. Stains on the endpapers of the second volume.
