[BALZAC (Honoré de). Dom Gigadas by Horace de Saint-Aubin. Paris : Hippolyte Souverain, 1840. - 2 volumes in-8, half tan basane, smooth spine decorated, yellow edges spotted in red (period binding). First edition of this early novel by Honoré de Balzac, which some scholars attribute to Count Ferdinand de Gramont. Copy in contemporary binding. Damage and loss to the upper part of the spine of the first volume, some minor wear and tear, dull corners, missing the first endpaper of the second volume. Freckles and traces of wetness. Old stamp of the stationery bookshop of Mrs. Chartier in Ars-en-Ré, repeated on several leaves. Provenance: Lepé, whose name is printed in gilt at the bottom of the spines.
