Jean Baptiste Verberckt follows courses at the academy of Antwerp between 1751- 1754. He then went to Paris to work for Jacques Verberckt, his uncle, who worked as a sculptor for Louis XV. He was one of the most talented woodcarvers of his century. For Louis XV, under the direction of Gabriel, he delivered the most refined panelling. The Château de Fontainebleau housed one of these precious disassembled sets in its reserves. After their patient restoration and although fragmentary, these panellings illustrate marvelously the taste for the finest and most elegant motifs that marked the 1730's. He was also a Professor at the Academy of Antwerp.
