JETÉE DE FLEURS About 1950
Oil on canvas
Signed lower right: Vlaminck
66 x 50 cm
Provenance
Private collection A.K., Paris
Our painting evokes the floral arrangements with which Berthe, Maurice de Vlaminck's second wife, cheerfully fills their house, where they have lived since 1925. She adorned La
Tourillière with flowers from the garden, which she arranged in fresh, vigorous bouquets.
Our artist appreciated the rusticity of these bright flowers. He likes to paint them on dark backgrounds, wildly disordered in their vase or in a spray thrown in the air. With its lively colours and dynamic brushstrokes, our daisy spray announces the compositions of the 1950s (fig. 1).
