BIBLIOGRAPHY Spanish Paintings from 14th to 16th Centuries, ed. by Alberto Velasco Gonzalez, Madrid and London, Caylus and Sam Fogg, 2019.
Our two panels probably belonged to a small altarpiece dedicated to the Virgin or to a predella, probably intended for a side altar in a church in the Valencia region. A third painting belongs to this group, representing the Adoration of the Magi (panel, 58.5 x 46 cm. Anonymous sale, Sotheby's, London, 5 July 2018, no. 117). We find in this third panel the same gilding treatment, the same outer outline of the halos and the same punches. The landscape has the same characteristics as that of the Nativity.
We can compare our Nativity painting with the modernity of the composition of the Puridad altarpiece (kept in the Valencia Museum of Fine Arts) made by Falco in the first decade of the 1500s
