History
This scene of falconry with hunters in the blue uniforms of the royal hunt, was inspired by the Gobelins tapestries produced in the 1730s from Oudry's cartoons showing various hunting scenes of Louis XV in the royal forests around Paris. The series was copied around 1780 onto Sèvres porcelain plates for Louis XVI. These are now in the private dining room of Louis XVI at Versailles.
The trophy surrounds are particularly rich and colourful, and could have been executed on coloured porcelain or in various shades of gilt with contrasting burnishing.
Another similar scene is preserved in the Archives of the Manufacture de Sèvres. We have looked through Marcelle Brunet's thesis on Develly, but have not found any porcelain pieces copying him.
