Walthéry starts his career very young in Peyo's studio. Supervised at the beginning by Will, he is directed towards the series "Jacky et Célestin", produced for Le Soir illustré. Between 1963 and 1966 under the pseudonym of Pop's, he drew four episodes and gradually developed his style. It is then that he attacks ''Benoît Brisefer'', more ambitious series that the Master reserves for Spirou. At the same time, he starts his favorite character "Natacha, hôtesse de l'air" in 1967, but it is only in 1970 that this little determined woman arrives in Spirou.
