DUNOD DE CHARNAGE, François-Ignace. A treatise on the prescriptions, alienation of church property, and dixmes, according to civil and canon law, the jurisprudence of the kingdom, and the customs of the county of Burgundy. By Mr. F. I. Dunod de Charnage, esquire, former lawyer at the Parliament, and royal professor at the University of Besançon. Third edition, Paris: Briasson, 1753. In-4 of [2], X, 408, [22] pp. Marbled calf, spine decorated with gilt irons, red morocco title-piece, triple fillet framed in cold on the boards, red edges (period binding). A very good copy. A great classic on the question of prescriptions by the Franc-Comtois jurist Dunod de Charnage (1679, Saint-Claude - 1752, Besançon). "Dunod endeavoured to present a synthesis of the question of prescriptions and he produced the fundamental work on the subject, which is said to have served for the elaboration of the civil code" (cf. Dictionnaire historique des jurisconsultes français). Camus Dupin, 1640.
