ANNUNCIATES OF BESANÇON. Lessons of the offices and octaves proper to the order of the celestial Annunciation. For the use of the monasteries of the same order, Besançon: François Gauthier, S. d. [1715]. In-8 of 75, [1] p., title vignette, headbands, text in Latin and French on two columns. Sewn, formerly unbound. Fair condition: title page soiled, with paper losses (without affecting the text); wetness in the lower margin on the first 25 f., corners corrugated; last f. Soiled, tears (slight damage to some letters); condition of the text quite correct. Rare Besançon printing relating to the female (contemplative) order of the Annunciades. The female order of the Most Holy Annunciation settled in Besançon in the middle of the 17th century. Clériadus de Vergy, governor of Franche-Comté, authorized its installation in 1628, but it was not until 1648 that the municipality ratified this decision. Approval dated 25 June 1715, signed Antonius Franciscus de Blictersvich de Moncley (the vicar general Antoine-Francois de Bliterswijk de Montcley, future archbishop of Besançon). Some handwritten annotations from the 18th century, in French. Small piece of handwritten paper specifying that "The lessons of the 1st nocturne are of the Saturday evening of the scripture in question" and that "The lessons d of the 2nd and 3rd nocturne are those of the day of the feast of the Holy Shroud and not of the oc [missing letters]".
