Pair of alabaster high reliefs depicting
CHRIST ON THE CROSS BETWEEN THE SHRINKS AND THE Saintsand
PRAYER WITH ANGELS Reliefs each: 23.5 x 19 cm.
The reliefs are worked in high quality and partly gilded. The first one shows the Calvary scene. At the foot of the cross Mary Magdalene in kneeling posture, on the left the mourning John and Mary, on the right two soldiers in armour. The background in fine bas-relief shows the city of Jerusalem with the temple, in front Caiaphas with turban.
The counterpart shows the body of Christ on the knees of God the Father, his foot on a globe, in the manner of the Pietà. Above it the dove of the Holy Spirit. Laterally two large kneeling angels holding Christ's cloth and hand respectively, above another pair of angels with cross and martyr's column. The group in front of a curly cloud background.
Both reliefs have a lower rim sloping upwards, each with a longitudinal cartouche on top, with the signature initials "IDH" in shell gold.
Works by the master's hand can be found in important museums, such as: Musée du Louvre ("L'Annonciation"; Aartsbisschoppelijk Museum, Utrecht ("Circumcision of Christ"); Frederic Marès Museum ("Conversion of Paul"). As well as several works in the Fundación Museo de las Ferias. A.R. (1291571) (11)
