PICTURE OF A FOREIGN LADY WITH COTTONS Oil on canvas. Doubled. 126 x 104 cm. In gilt state frame. Against a black background as well as a red heavy brocade curtain gathered to the left the three-quarter portrait of an elegant young lady in a tightly belted, predominantly black dress. At the collar and over the shoulders with rich white lace, in addition with rich polychrome, partly golden borders, ornaments, buttons and bows, which also decorate the sleeves and the area of the forearms. In addition, a dark headdress with bows on the left side and decorative brooches; furthermore, a pearl necklace around the neck, earrings and a ring on each hand. She has slightly reddish hair with carefully hanging curls, a fine delicate incarnate with reddish cheeks and with her shining brown eyes she looks dignified out of the picture at the viewer. Her left hand rests on a small white shaggy dog with shining brown eyes, which is squatting on a small table with a reddish blanket. Behind it a larger, red table with a vase and a magnificent arrangement of red, white and yellow flowers, among them anemones, chrysanthemums, tulips and daffodils. Representative depiction with splendid, partly meticulously worked out details in harmonious colouring, the woman especially emphasized by her dress with white lace against the dark background. Minimal retouching. At the edge partly slightly rubbed by framing. Partly minor frame damage.
