Prachtvolle Louis XVI-Deckelvase in Porphyr Lot n° 21

Height: 35.5 cm. Maximum foot width: 28 cm. France, late 18th century. The almost hemispherical vase body of heavy construction in red-speckled Egyptian porphyry, fluted at the top, with a gilded interlace band set into it. The base is formed by four putti riding on dolphins, connected by hanging leaf festoons, in gilded bronze. Between them a leaf bud hanging downwards. The upper rim is rounded with bulges, inlaid with the lid which curves slightly upwards in the middle, with a ball knob and a likewise gilded leaf rosette. The heavy, almost hemispherical vase body is carved in red-speckled, Egyptian porphyry, fluted on the top and inlaid with gilt braided ribbon. Four putti riding on dolphins connected by trailing gilt-bronze foliage festoons create the base.
