Poster made in 1892, when the French singer and writer Aristide Bruant was at the height of his career. He was invited to the Ambassadeurs, one of the concert cafés on the Champs-Elysées, and it was on this occasion that Toulouse-Lautrec produced this poster. Although Bruant was enthusiastic about this work, he had to threaten his manager that he would not perform unless two posters were put up on either side of the stage and Paris was covered with them.
