Rare set of ammonites NOSTOCERAS HYATT Upper Cretaceous Maestrichtian, Menabe region, southern Madagascar.
Length of a fossil: about 9 cm
Length of the gangue: 18 cm
Provenance:
CHRISTIE'S, Paris, 16-17 April 2008, lot 81.
Our very beautiful specimen, partially freed from a large nodule of sandstone, thus forms a true nest of natural reptiles: the NOSTOCERAS HYATT were preciously freed at the end of a labour requiring rigour, patience and talent, without any being broken whereas one generally finds them only in the state of fragments in Canadian, Mexican and French deposits. This specimen is therefore doubly exceptional because of its perfect condition and its aestheticism and becomes a true natural sculpture.
