Nasser Assar was born in Tehran in 1928. He moved to Paris in 1953 where he painted landscapes, inspired by Far Eastern motifs, his works gradually becoming more abstract, and coming to resemble Chinese and Japanese calligrams. From 1955, he exhibited regularly in various galleries and museums, such as the Museum of Modern Art in Paris. His exhibitions were covered by art critics Julien Alvard, Yves Bonnefoy, Claude Esteban, Lorand Gaspar and Bernard Noel. His paintings are part of the permanent collection of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Tehran.
