Born in Saint Petersburg, Alexandre Roubtzoff entered the Academy of Fine Arts in the imperial city in 1904. He perfected his training in various European capitals, then arriving in Tunis on April 1, 1914, he settled permanently in Al Djazira Street. He painted portraits of Tunisian society as well as numerous landscapes, an irreplaceable testimony to Tunisia at the beginning of the 20th century. Roubtzoff exhibited regularly at the Tunisian Salon but also at the Expositions de l'Afrique Française de Tunis, at the Exposition Coloniale de Marseille (1922), at the Parisian Salons (1922 and 1926), at the Salon de la Société Nationale des Beaux-arts, at the Salons des Indépendants.
