KASHGAI carpet (Persia), late 19th century
Dimensions : 218 x 140cm
Technical characteristics : Wool velvet on a cotton foundation.
An ivory diamond-shaped medallion and its excrescences, at the four cardinal points, compose a cruciform set with an exuberant multicoloured flower in the heart. It is placed on a jagged navy field, with a rich polychrome stylized flower pattern. Four small ivory spandrels with delicate floral compositions enclose the whole. Four counter borders with small cruciform flowers, "botehs" and small stylized insects, all in polychrome, form the main frame.
