Egypt or Near East, Mamluk art, 14th century Arabic manuscript on ivory paper, 14 leaves, calligraphed on 14 lines per page in "Muhaqqaq" in black ink. 37 titles of suras written in gold surrounded by black, with the separations of the verses marked by a golden rosette dotted with blue and red. Marginal illuminated indications of juz', hizb and sajda, repeated waqf note in the upper margins. The richly illuminated colophon is calligraphed in blue ink on a gold background in a poly-lobed medallion.
