A PERSIAN SHIELD (DHAL), QAJAR, 19TH CENTURY of shallow convex form, the interior lined in red fabric and with four rings for enarmes (now missing), the outer surface fitted with four low domed bosses, and brass brim, decorated over the greater part of its surface with a broad panel filled with a gilt framework enclosing flowerheads of increasing size from the centre, the central rondel with a calligraphic cartouche, and the border with further calligraphic cartouches alternating with exotic beasts 40.3 cm; 15 7/8 in diameter
