Wenceslaus Hollar (1607-1677) - Portrait of Durer the elder / Description: Portrait of Durer the elder, the father of Albrecht Durer, painted by Durer in 1497. Half-length portrait facing front, slightly turned to right wearing light cloak lined with black fur open at front and black cap with ear-flaps turned up, with hands crossed in wide sleeves; with text below, after Albrecht Durer. 1644 --- Print made by: Wenceslaus Hollar / Dimensions: 22,40 x 15,90 cm Excellent impression in good condition. On lad paper trimmed on the plate border, traces of tread margins at most places. / Literature: New Hollstein (German) / The New Hollstein: German engravings, etchings and woodcuts 1400-1700 (692.II) --- Pennington 1982 / A descriptive catalogue of the etched work of Wenceslaus Hollar (1389) --- After the painting in the National Gallery, London (NG1938). The painter's father was a Nuremberg goldsmith of Hungarian origin. Durer had already painted him seven years earlier, in 1490.
