Pierre Puget made many sculptures in Calisanne stone for fountains but also for the atlantes of the Toulon Town Hall. He maintained a large workshop and trained students who, after assisting him, would themselves become renowned sculptors. Let us quote in particular Honoré Pellé (Gap 1641 - Génes 1718) but also Christophe Veyrier (Trets 1637 - Toulon 1689) who
worked in Toulon and used the same limestone as Puget. The psychological realism of this head, but especially the curly locks so characteristic of Pierre Puget, allow a comparison with the bust of the Salvator Mundi
kept in the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Marseille (inv 68).
