The nobleman dressed in a red jama, mounted on a prancing stallion holds a hunting falcon in his gloved right hand. A quiver of arrows and his bow are slung behind the saddle. The horse is elaborately bedecked with a golden saddle with fine floral decoration, a blue blanket , and gold bridle and reins. Painting: 22 by 16 cm. Incl. frame: 37 by 24.5 cm. CATALOGUE NOTE Amongst the various animals used, such as hawks, cheetahs, leopards, and saluqis, falcons held a favored place and served as an emblem of imperial authority.
