Aunis, Master of Newfoundland, early 17th century
Height: 11.3 cm - Diameter: 15 cm
(some missing edges)
The name Master of Newfoundland was given to a founder from the La Rochelle region after the castle near Fontenay-le-Comte (Vendée), where four of his mortars were found; these have bracketed terms with a lion's head capped with feathers, often accompanied by fleur-de-lys as here.
