Christ of Pity in limestone sculpted in the round with slight traces of polychromy. Jesus, stripped of his clothes and with his wrists bound, is seated on a mound covered with a sheet; rods are placed at his feet and a whip is raised at his side; two angels hold a drapery behind his back.
Loire Valley, early Renaissance, circa 1520
Height: 59.2 cm - Width: 35 cm - Depth: 23 cm
(some accidents and restorations, notably to the nose and the beard, slight erosion)
This Christ awaiting his torture is particularly moving; his natural attitude and realistic anatomy give this sculpture a striking presence
