Flemish school of the 19th century, after Hans MEMLING
Virgin and Child

The painting reproduces the left panel of the Diptych of Maarten van Nieuwenhove, made by the Flemish primitive painter Hans Memling in 1487 and preserved in the Sint-Janshospitaal in Bruges. An iconic work for its symbolism, the Virgin in royal dress with a diadem encrusted with pearls on her forehead giving the apple to Jesus, the "new Adam", and for the representation of space, a convex mirror behind Mary reveals the invisible parts of the room.
