Flemish school of the 19th century, after Hans MEMLING Virgin and Child Oil on panel 46.5 x 35.5 cm (accidents) The painting reproduces the left panel of the Diptych of Maarten van Nieuwenhove, made by the Flemish primitive painter Hans Memling in 1487 and preserved in the Sint-Janshospitaal in Bruges. An iconic work for its symbolism, the Virgin in royal dress with a diadem encrusted with pearls on her forehead giving the apple to Jesus, the "new Adam", and for the representation of space, a convex mirror behind Mary reveals the invisible parts of the room.
