The work inspired Lesage in part for the writing of his Diable boiteux in 1707.
One sees "the devil, freed from a vial where a magician held him, lifting the roofs of houses to show the vices of all categories of society" (Marianne Closson, L'imaginaire démoniaque en France (1550-1650). Genèse de la littérature fantastique, Droz, 2000, p. 155).
A recent translation into French was published by Fayard in 1996.
A poet and playwright, Velez de Guevara (1579-1641) composed a large number of comedies, most of which have remained unpublished, and which made him very famous and popular in Spain.
