Translation in Latin verse of the beginning of these monumental Annales Ecclesiastiques (12 volumes in-folio), the main work of Cesare Baronius (1538-1607), renowned historian, Vatican librarian and cardinal. Only the first volume was published.
Born in Bordeaux, Pierre Josset (1589-1663) entered the Society of Jesus in 1608 and taught rhetoric for many years and devoted himself to missions on land and sea (Sommervogel-De Backer).
A prize copy in a rich binding with the arms of the Fremyn de Moras family.
The ex-praemio, dated 1640 and rewarding a pupil of the Jesuit College of Limoges, is bound at the head of the volume (scratched red wax seal).
