First edition in French of this treatise on astronomy, translated by Jacques Goupyl, a physician and Hellenist of the 16th century who became in 1555 holder of the chair of medicine at the Collège royal.
Dedicated to Catherine de Médicis, it is illustrated with numerous astronomical figures in the text.
Alessandro Piccolomini (1508-1579), a literary scholar and humanist, archbishop of Patras, was a member of the family of Pope Pius II. His work first appeared in Venice in 1540.
