Genoa, private collection
A Spanish painter appreciated for his romantic landscapes, Diez trained at the School of Fine Arts in Seville under the guidance of José Roldán, later proving to be a faithful follower of the most genuine Andalusian romanticism. His first participation in the National Exhibitions took place in 1860, with four landscapes, but this was not the only genre in which he distinguished himself, since throughout his career he also devoted himself to historical subjects, still lifes and portraits. In 1867 he took part in the Seville exhibition with scenes inspired by the theme of bullfighting, and in 1872 he was appointed Academic of Fine Arts of Seville. One of his Landscapes with Shepherds is now in the Prado Museum.
