Perfectly integrated into the Genoese artistic environment, then dominated by the tonalism of gray, he brought a strong chromatism and a predilection for genre scenes. In addition to his studio in Genoa, he had a studio in Rome in Via Margutta, which he opened in the winter months and in fine weather joined the group of the Twenty-Five of the Roman Campagna, portraying shepherds with herds and farmhouses, but he was also a landscape painter, sailor and skilled portrait painter, a favourite of the aristocracy thanks to his great ability of execution and intense colourism, reminiscent of the luminous tones of his native Naples and of the impressions he gained in Liguria. Giuseppe Pennasilico took part in the Italian-American Exhibition held in Genoa in 1892 on the occasion of the Colombiadi, where he was awarded a gold medal.
