Milan, 1851 - 1936
Nude of a woman with feline
Signed E Magistretti lower left
Oil on canvas, 66X55.5 cm
Emilio Magistretti studied at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts from 1871 to 1875 under Francesco Hayez, who chose him as his assistant for his trip to Italy in 1879. Initially he devoted himself to various themes, from genre scenes to sacred subjects, trying his hand at portraiture, animal subjects and landscapes. In 1880 he won a prize from the Ministry of Education. Our painting, which can be dated to around the 1920s, is particularly interesting for its subject: a female figure with a dreamy gaze, holding a tiger in a warm embrace.
