The son of a stonemason, Baltasar Lobo studied at the Madrid School of Fine Arts where he discovered the work of Picasso, Miro and Gargallo. In 1939 he fled Franco's regime. After many adventures, he arrived in Paris and, penniless, went to see Picasso who supported him and found him a studio. He became friends with Henri Laurens. Lobo then turned to a simplification of forms in the tradition of Brancusi, Arp and Moore. His work is rewarded with numerous prizes and public commissions. His work is represented in the greatest museums of modern art.
