Jacques Coquillay trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Tours and then in Paris with Marcel Gimond. He also attended the workshops of Hubert Yencesse and Raymond Corbin. A retrospective exhibition was dedicated to him at the Salon d'Automne in 1992.
