ADANSON, MICHEL: Natural history of Senegal. Shellfish. With an abridged relation of a voyage made in this country during the years 1749, 50, 51, 52 and 53. Paris, Claude-Jean-Baptiste Bache, 1757. In-4, full contemporary blonde basane, spine ribbed. With a large folding map and 19 folding plates representing molluscs and shellfish engraved by Thérèse Reboul after the author's sketches. The first part deals with Adanson's travels and explorations in Senegal, including the island of Gorée and the Senegal River. The second part is devoted to the history of conchyliology and molluscs. Michel Adanson (1727-1806) was a French botanist who joined the French East India Company to study the natural history of Senegal.
