Wooden frame and gilded plaster with rocaille decoration (accidents, small missing parts).
This composition was engraved by Scotin II around 1718-1729 after a lost work by Nicolas Lancret, corresponding to the Charmes de la conversation (see G. Wildenstein, Lancret, Paris, 1924, n° 275, reproduced fig. 70).
The engraving was accompanied by the lines:
"In the shade of these woods to dance in her turn
Iris stretches out her lovely hand to her shepherd
Tirsis to take advantage of the favourable moment
Shakes it and declares her love to him at once...."
