MARIËN, Marcel Biafraise in all his states. 1968 Collage mount, 55 x 34 cm; signed, titled and dated in ink on the front, titled and dated on the back of the frame (small lack at one corner of the box). Framed in wood. Mariën's satirical-charitable contribution to the terrible famine in Biafra in 1968: color photo of "Marguerite at the Sabbath" by Pompier Dagnan-Bouveret, with a captioned headline "C'est la faute à Mercier" and a wooden box-binder glued under the image with the words "Pour les artistes du Biafra". The whole mounted on a canvas background. "Mercier" probably refers to Michèle Mercier, founder of the Swiss charity Chaîne du bonheur, which was active during the Biafran crisis. Prov. Christian Bussy (1936-2019), Belgian journalist, essayist and literary critic, a great specialist of surrealism.
